What is a fire risk assessment?
A fire risk assessment is a structured review of fire hazards, the people at risk, existing fire precautions, management arrangements and the recommendations required to reduce risk to a reasonable level.
Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person for most non-domestic premises — and some residential common areas — must ensure a suitable and sufficient fire risk assessment is in place and kept up to date.
The assessment itself is not simply a document. It is a process that helps dutyholders understand the risks present in their premises, what controls are already in place, and what further action is necessary. The written report supports that process and provides a defensible record.
Who needs one?
A suitable fire risk assessment is required for most non-domestic premises and relevant residential common areas. This includes employers, building owners, landlords and occupiers with responsibility for premises used by employees, visitors, residents or members of the public.
Complex, high-rise, or high-risk premises require a particularly thorough and competent approach. The consultancy has experience across a wide range of settings, including occupied operational environments.

How the process works
Enquiry and scope

Site visit
The consultant attends the premises to carry out a thorough, structured assessment. This may include a review of existing documentation, physical inspection, and discussion with the responsible person.
Assessment report
A written report is produced with a risk rating, findings, prioritised action plan and practical recommendations. The report is reviewed and signed off by the consultant.
Follow-up support
Where needed, the report can be discussed with the responsible person or dutyholder to help interpret findings and agree next steps.
What clients receive
Following the assessment, clients receive a clear, practical written report setting out the risk level, key findings, action plan and recommendations. The report is designed to be understood by responsible persons and dutyholders without requiring specialist knowledge.
The fire risk assessment report does not constitute legal advice. Fire safety responsibilities remain with the responsible person or dutyholder. Recommendations are provided on the basis of conditions observed at the time of inspection.
